Over the course of 109 years, Bramley Baths has been a working foundry, as well as a public bathhouse before it was taken over by the community, and tens of thousands of people have passed through it during that time. It is currently used by 1400 people each week to gym, swim, steam and socialize. One of the ambitions of Bramley Baths now that it is managed by the community is to combine health and fitness with fun, and establish new social experiences that are high quality, accessible and affordable.<\/p>\n
This is the second of two swim-along-cinema events created in 2013 with support from Community First, a national funding scheme to benefit deprived communities in the UK. It follows on from I Love West Leeds\u2019s previous events at Bramley Baths, including a floating orchestra (Water Music 2009) and an underwater art exhibition (Submerged 2012).<\/p>\n
The event is supported by volunteers from Friends of Bramley Baths, and a technical team from Anything Audio, who will be submerging speakers in the pool so that audiences can hear the ghosts coming 6 times faster than they would listening only above the water.<\/p>\n
Ghostbusters (PG) \u2013 Sunday 27 October, 7.30pm (Doors open 7.00pm). Adult \u00a35.00 \/ Children \u00a33.00 (Swim or dry seats available). Under 18\u2019s must be accompanied by an adult. <\/b><\/p>\n
Jane Earnshaw, Festival Director of I Love West Leeds Festival said:<\/b> \u201cI ain\u2019t afraid of no ghosts! We\u2019re looking forward to rolling out the red carpet with Bramley Baths for a spooky swimema, especially after the response to Jaws screened in the pool in March this year. We were impressed by the fearless response of the audience to Jaws, so we\u2019re looking forward to mixing swimming with the supernatural \u2013 though we\u2019re still not sure if ghosts can swim?\u201d<\/p>\n
Danny Whiteley, Manager of Bramley Baths said:<\/b> \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to bring Ghostbusters here and to work with I Love West Leeds Festival again. I\u2019m confident the lifeguards are ready for anything \u2013 even ghosts \u2013 but audiences should prepare for a really fun experience and loads of participation during the film, because this is going to be nothing like a regular trip to a cinema.\u201d<\/p>\n
