Last night the club held its annual awards evening, at The Commercial in Armley<\/strong><\/a>, where Graham and Lorraine hosted the event and local Boxer Billy Pickles<\/strong><\/a> came along and handed out the prizes for us.<\/p>\n

Bill Norfolk Award for Club Person of the Year<\/strong> – Steve Langton and Anne Hollin
\nThis years winners Have gone the extra mile, the first winner, has run the kitchen on game days, and taking on some of our suppliers, despite suffering knee problems and other health issues.<\/p>\n

The Second winner, has been at every club function and league meeting, stored equipment, made sure we got the balls back that disappeared in his street, and their enthusiasm despite the setbacks of the season.<\/p>\n

Mike Stephenson\/Oliver Reed Fan Club Award \u2013 Top Try Scorer <\/strong>\u2013 Aaron Henry
\nThis year\u2019s top try scorer was also last years top try scorer, and stopped passing the ball to his nearest challenger, to ensure his place in the record books, with 24 tries.<\/p>\n

Doug Barker Trophy \u2013 Top Points Scorer<\/strong> \u2013 Aaron Henry
\nThis year\u2019s winner, again was last year\u2019s winner of this same award, but with a larger points tally as more teams turned up to face his wrath and sledging, with 24 tries and 60 goals, making a points total of 216.<\/p>\n

Ron Cheney Award for Most Improved Player<\/strong> \u2013 Ben Maynard-Worrincy
\nThis years winner, is in his second season with the club, coming off the bench last season to being one of the starting props this year, making some barnstorming runs and the one punch against Oulton raiders, this years most improved player.<\/p>\n

Larry Keogh Trophy \u2013 Supporters Player of the Year \u2013 Aaron Henry
\nThis years winner was the top pointers score in the last two years, as well as the top try scorer, and Run away winner among the supporters.<\/p>\n

Roy Tinsley Memorial Trophy \u2013 Players Player of the Year<\/strong> \u2013
\nThe players voted for this award, as the name says. The player who has won this award, goes about their work quietly week in week out, taking the ball up endlessly, and tackling his heart out. The players player – Tom Langton<\/p>\n

Colin Ellis Memorial Trophy \u2013 Coaches Player of the Year<\/strong> \u2013 Aidan Baranyi
\nClub Captain Brad Wilson said, “When Steve rang me up last week and told me he was giving the coaches player to this player, I couldn\u2019t agree more. One of the toughest and best players I\u2019ve played rugby with. Even though he\u2019s guaranteed a yellow and red card every other week, I don\u2019t think anyone could complain how this lad plays his rugby.
\nHe does the hard work in d but also can score a try and make breaks out of nothing, which he\u2019s done in the big games this year. An outstanding year for this fella. Your coaches player is Aidan Baranyi.”<\/p>\n

The Dave Cromack Man of Steel Award<\/strong> – Tom Langton
\nBrad said “personally I think this is the top trophy which everyone wants to get. When Steve asked for a name for this award it was always going to be a high standard set by Kez Hudson last season. This player doesn\u2019t get enough praise for the work and dedication he puts into his rugby. When the going gets tough he\u2019s one of the first in to take a hit up, he puts the massive hits in defence and just doesn\u2019t seem to feel any pain he\u2019s just a Workhorse for the team.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think this lad has had a bad game all season. Defiantly one of the best and toughest players I\u2019ve played with.<\/p>\n

Another brilliant year at the Buffs for him and to play alongside him is a pleasure. Your man of steel this year is Tom Langton.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
