Match Report

After a slightly delayed start to the game, while the Greetland coach and man of many talents, Billy Lacey rounded up enough players; the Buffaloes were on the back foot from the off. With Greetland taking advantage of the referees keenness with his whistle, and some poor defending and handling from the side at the top of the league.

In the sixth minute, the Buffaloes gave away another penalty, this time for a swinging arm, in a kickable position, Greetland took the opportunity to take an early lead but pushed the ball to the right of the post.

The next ten minutes were all Greetland, but only the scrabbling Buffaloes defence kept them out. On the odd occasion, the Buffaloes made it into the Greetland half of the field; they lost the ball or penalised for infringements.

In the sixteenth minute, the game was called to a temporary halt, when one of the All Rounders went down in a tackle and was unconscious for a short period, and complained of pains in his neck. Rightly so an ambulance was called for and the medical teams from both sides, looked after him until the professionals arrived.

Once everyone was confident he was ok the play restarted on the second pitch, with Greetland playing the ball and taking advantage of the slope.

Three minutes after the restart, the Buffaloes started to perform, and Prop Tim McRae went on a rampaging run, brought down short of the line.

On twenty-three minutes, McRae was over for an unconverted try, after Scrum Half Brad Wilson broke the defensive line and fed the ball to McRae, giving the visitors the lead 0-4.

in the twenty-ninth minute, Centre Jack Sykes was over for the second Buffaloes try of the afternoon, with Connor McGill converting, to make the score 0-10.

Three minutes later Greetland were over for their opening score, when centre Ben Fleming, went on an arching run towards the corner post, to touch down for an unconverted try, despite the valiant efforts of McRae, reducing the lead to 4-10.

In the thirty-fifth minute, Buffaloes fullback, Aaron Henry, chasing up a kick from the scrum base, raced over for a try under the posts, with McGill Converting, to make the score 4-16.

The teams went into the halftime break with the score at 4-16.

Four minutes after the break the Buffaloes were over again with the fullback, Henry, went through the defence, scoring an unconverted try, extending the lead to 8-20.

In the forty eighth, Greetland were over again, when Lacey followed up some strong running, to score out wide for an unconverted try, reducing the gap to 8-20.

Five minutes later, the Buffaloes were in again following a break from Aiden Baranyi, Brad Wilson took a short pass and scooted away for an unconverted try. Making the score 8-24 to the Buffaloes.

In the sixty-first minute, McRae was over for his second try of the afternoon, after he went on a jinxing run baffling the defender, the try went unconverted. Extending the Buffaloes lead to 8-28.

Three minutes later, Buffaloes Second Rower, Dave Jennings went on a run down the far wing, covering 60 metres, before being brought down by a combination of himself and some strong defence.

In the sixty-fifth minutes, Henry was over for his hat-trick, with a converted try, this time, the goal was kicked by Sykes. Giving the Buffaloes a 8-34 lead.

In the seventieth minute, the debutant, Alex Coop, following up on a kick scored a well-worked try, again unconverted, making the score 8-38 to the Buffaloes.

The Remaining ten minutes flew by with neither side adding any points, with end to end action.

All credit to the greetland side, who played well and kept the Buffaloes from dominating the game, as they have done in previous weeks. This was a much tougher contest than the Buffaloes players were expecting, and will need to step it up in next week’s game with Wetherby.

A special mention to Dave Parker, who played his final game yesterday for the club, as him and his partner are heading off to Spain for a new start. Thanks from everyone at the club for your efforts and endeavours over the year, we wish you both well and hope to see you when you visit.

Also big thanks to Club Director, Graham Fisher, who, at half time went to the greetland clubhouse and made sure the supporters were kept watered by running the Bar for the short-staffed Greetland outfit.

And finally a speedy recovery to the injured player.
