Les Dyl

Sad to hear of the passing of arguably one of the greatest centres to play the game, the classy Les Dyl. Rugby League fans and especially those who frequented Headingley on a regular basis will know of his success and try laden career with Leeds and his partnership with the equally legendary winger the late John Atkinson, but few may know of his brief career at Bramley.

Tony Fisher encouraged Les to get the boots on again and share his experience and knowledge to the Bramley squad. Les made his debut in the first match of the 1988-89 season which ended in a 10-13 defeat at Sheffield Eagles. Les went on to play in the first 23 matches of that season. He scored his first try in the amber and black when Bramley registered a new record score as they destroyed Dewsbury 62-14 at McClaren Field.

He relished playing against the Mansfield Marksmen as he scored his second try for the club in a 32-6 home win in the John Player Trophy and his third in a 36-2 home league win before scoring his fourth and final try for Bramley in the 18-18 home derby against Hunslet. His final match for the club was in a 14-17 defeat at Huddersfield.

In all, Les played 23 times for Bramley, 21 in his favourite left centre position, once at right centre and one at loose forward and scored four tries. A short stay but it was a privilege to see him playing for the villagers. RIP Les.
