The Buffaloes started their second round clash away to Moldgreen with a much-changed team from the one which began the previous week’s game at Hull Dockers.
The game was a feisty affair, punctuated by the constant sound of the referees whistle. The game started with the buffaloes on the back foot, coughing up possession and giving away stupid penalties.
In the 4th Minute Moldgreen opened the scoring, following some weak defence, they strolled through the yawning Buffaloes defence to make the score 6-0.
Eight minutes later the Buffaloes opened their account when Joe Mathers finished off a sweeping move out wide, with Connor McGill missing the conversation reducing the lead to 6-4.
In the 16th minute, Moldgreen were awarded a penalty for offside in front of the posts, which they duly slotted over to increase the lead to 8-4.
Ten minutes later Dave Wright was over for the first of his tries following a move down the right-hand side of the field. McGill converted the try, giving the Buffaloes the lead, 8-10.
Five minutes from the break, Wright was in again, breaking through the Moldgreen defence in his half and sprinting away from the flailing defence. McGill Converted the try to increase the lead to 8-16.
in the 39th minute, Dave Jennings was sin-binned for retaliating after been punched in a tackle.
Three minutes after the break, Wright was in for his hat-trick, following a kick towards the corner from McGill, with McGill converting the try from the touchline, making the score 8-22.
In the 54th minute, Tom White broke through the defensive line, drawing the fullback and giving the ball to Wright for his fourth try. McGill converted the try again extending the lead to 8-28.
Four minutes later Wright took a short pass from Ross Peel, and sprinted away for his fifth try of the afternoon, McGill converted from the side of the posts, making the score 8-34.
Following a spate of penalties, Moldgreen crossed the line again for a converted try making the score 14-34.
In the 75th minute, Danny Baranyi was taken out off the ball, leaving him with a gaping wound in his top lip. The referee claimed not to have seen the incident and the following handbags. After things calmed down and following the next play the ball McGill took the ball at first receiver and cooly slotted over a drop goal for the last score of the game, making the final score 14-35.
