Akkies Down Youthful Buffaloes
On a Wet and miserable Wednesday evening, the Buffaloes travelled across Leeds to take on the Akkies in the last match of the season, a short trip hampered by road works and the persistent rain which was tumbling down.
The Game kicked off at five to seven, and the dusk was rolling in already, with the rain not helping matters, and across the valley, we were treated to a lightning storm which continued until after the game ended.
The first quarter of the game was played as though it was the last match of the season and coupled with the ball being like a bar of soap, this led to a knock-on-a-thon. With both sides looking for the opening score of the game.
This came in the 19th minute when Buffaloes loose forward, Bailey Harman broke free and cross the try line out wide, for an unconverted try, giving the Buffaloes the Lead 0-4.
The lead was short-lived as three minutes later the home side opened their account with a converted try, giving them the lead 6-4.
Just before the half hour, the Buffaloes regained the lead, when winger Liam Barnsley crossed for a try by the corner flag. This time Tom Jenkins was on target with the conversion, giving the away side the lead 6-10.
From the Kick off the Akkies raced away and score a try under the black dot, giving the kicker an easy task to add the conversion, giving them the lead 12-10.
With two minutes to the break, the Akkies crossed again for a converted try, giving them the lead at half time 18-10.
The second half was a truncated affair, with the darkness coming faster and this in turn made the lightning more pronounced.
The Akkies added a further two tries in the second half, with the second try being converted, as the conversion sailed over the posts the Referee blew for time. Giving the akkies the win 28-10.
