Match Report

On a fantastic warm sunny day, the Buffaloes managed to get a game for the players who hadn’t been playing much during the season so far.

From the position we were in, in February, where we were struggling for one team, let alone two, this is pleasing to see from a club point of view.

The game started superbly for the Buffaloes when in the 4th minute, Loose forward Tom Jenkins broke through the defensive line and fed the ball to Hooker Dylan Murphy, who crossed the line for the opening points in the game. Jenkins added the conversion, giving the Buffaloes the lead 6-0.

The following 15 minutes were all action, with both sides striving to find an opening in each other’s defence.

The break came in the 21st minute when Murphy dived over the try line following a sustained period of pressure on Gusieleys line. Jenkins again was on target with the conversion, Buffaloes 12, Guiseley 0.

Four minutes later, Lewis Gaunt strode through the defence and streaked away before drawing the fullback and passing the ball to the winger, who couldn’t hold on to the pass.

In the 31st minute, Ben Blanchard was given the ball in the clear and raced away for the third Buffaloes Try of the afternoon. However, this time, there was no conversion. Buffaloes 16 Guiseley 0.

Just on half time, Jenkins broke free of the defenders and looked to have lost the ball in front of the posts, but the referee saw things differently and wave play on; Debutaunt George Carpenter collected the ball and scored under the black dot. Murphy was on target with the extras. Buffaloes 22, Guiseley 0.

Two minutes into the second half and the home side were over the line again; Scrum half, Lewis Johnson threw an outrageous dummy, which fooled the defensive line, and he crossed for the first score of the second half. Jenkins added the conversion, Buffaloes 28, Guiseley 0.

In the 58th minute, Carpenter crossed the try line for his second try of the game, following a break ten metres from the line. Murphy again added the conversion. Buffaloes 34, Guiseley 0.

On the Hour, Lewis Gaunt raced 40 metres away from the disparaging defenders to Score out wide; no conversion this time, Buffaloes 38, Guiseley 0.

In the 65th minute, Johnson broke away from the tiring defenders and fed the ball to Murphy, who crossed for his third try of the game; Jenkins was again on target with the conversion. Buffaloes 44 Guiseley 0

Shortly after, the referee blew for time.

Hopefully, this won’t be the last time we see the second team in action this year.
