Match Report

A triple try blitz from Sheffield Hillsborough Hawks in the last five minutes denied Bramley Buffaloes a historic first victory in an entertaining 14-14 draw at Stanningley.

In front of over 1200 it was the Buffaloes who came charging out and but for some poor handling in the backs could easily have taken an early lead.

Further opportunities came and went until Luke Sellers sneaked in at the corner, after a superb break through the middle by skipper Darren Collins, to give the home side a 4-0 lead on 26 minutes.

That was how it stayed until the break but that lead was increased on 50 minutes when Sellers broke free down the left wing to canter in for his second try converted by Collins.

It was 14-0 seven minutes later when good work by man of the match Simon Bowker set up Shaun Flynn for a try.

The Buffaloes were coasting in front of an enthusiastic crowd and were punished for some lax defense on 75 minutes as Andrew Carson burst through from 10 yards to score. Carson converted his own score.

Two minutes later the gap was reduced to just 4 points as Rob Keegan went over in the corner and in the dying seconds Tom Wild forced his way through on the last tackle to make it all square.

It was a scoreline that was a fair reflection on an entertaining tussle but it will be the Buffaloes who’ll be licking the wounds after their late surrender.
