Match Report

Bramley Buffaloes put their mid season blip in form behind them with a vital 44-4 victory at Essex Eels in Saturday’s LHF Healthplan National League Three clash.

A much changed Buffaloes side eased into a comfortable 18-0 half-time lead with tries from Dan Mitchell, Tim Orr, Chris Mills and Marc Gibson and a single conversion from Steve Gill.

The final try of the half on 33 minutes resulted from an outstanding 70 metre break by Steve Gill.

The second-half was a similar story with the Buffaloes notching a further five touchdowns before Essex recorded a late consolation try on 78 minutes.

Within seconds of the restart it was Ross Gratton who coasted over for a try converted by Scottish under 19 international Darren Greenwood.

Greenwood was on the mark again on 50 minutes to convert Mitchell’s second try and Gibson bagged his second score five minutes later.

Another Buffaloes’ Scottish international in Andy Wormald, due to tour Holland next week with the Scotland squad, extended the lead further on 60 minutes before a superb 30 yard break and try from Danny O’Connor rounded off the Bramley scoring on 63 minutes. Greenwood notched his third conversion of the game.

“We did what we had to do but we didn’t set the world alight with that performance,” said Buffaloes coach Phil Hellewell after the game.

“I was impressed with the performance of some of the younger lads and it was great to see Chris Mills get a score on his debut as well as Darren Greenwood kicking well in the second half,” added Phil who will be preparing his side for another crunch match against Gateshead Storm at Stanningley next Saturday.
