Warriors gain the upper hand in the Battle of South Vs. West Leeds

On a bright and breezy afternoon the Buffaloes opened their 2014 Yorkshire Men’s League season with a defeat at near neighbours Hunslet Warriors.

The Buffaloes were up against it from the off when they fumbled the kick off and Warriors Coach and Captain Amraz Hamid capitalised and nipped through the shellshocked defence.  Stand Off Ryan Clark Converted to give the home side a six point lead.

Less than a minute later the Buffaloes were back in the game when Stand off Ben Dean threw a short pass to Alex Brier which created an overlap for Fullback Liam Copland to take advantage of.  Bringing the Score back to 6-4.

In the 13th Minute the Buffaloes were in again following a kick from Stevie Suddards, Centre Rikk Sumner nipped in for an uncoverted try, making the score 6-8 to the buffaloes.

The next 20 minutes were nip and tuck with both sides trying to force a mistake.  The Warriors were the first to give and Dean set up Sumner for his second try of the day, converted by Suddards.  Making the score  6-14.

Three minutes from the break Warriors second rower Dale Bateson was sin binned for persistent offences.

Five minutes after the break Warriors were in for the first score of the second half with an unconverted try making the score 10-14.

In the 51st Minute Buffaloes Loose forward, Terry Brown, was sin binned for dissent.

Whilst Brown was in the bin, Warriors made the extra man count, with a try on the 58th minute to Elliot Miller, and in the 60th minute second rower Bateson was over the line, with the second converted by Clark, to put the Warriors back in front 20-14.

7 minutes later Bateson was in again, with the try converted by Clark. Making the score 26-14.

With 8 minutes to go, Bramley winger Garry Butterfield caught a pass out wide and dived over the line for an unconverted try making the score 26-18.

The remainder of the game saw the Buffaloes pressing the Warriors line, but indiscipline saw the Buffs, repeatedly penalised, giving the warriors easy field position and in injury time Clark kicked a penalty making the final score 28-18 to the warriors.
