NEW BRAMLEY COACH KEEPS IT LOCAL - Bramley Buffaloes

Recently appointed Bramley Buffaloes Rugby League coach Steve Langton, formerly of Hunslet, is on the look out for local talent keen to don the amber and black.

The Buffaloes, a fans owned club set up following the demise of the original Bramley professional club in 1999, dropped out of the league last season due to recruitment issues after 10 years of success in the National Leagues.

Steve, 52, already had close links with Bramley as brother Barry played professionally for the original outfit and son Tom turned out for the Buffaloes under Craig Lingard before following his coach to Batley Bulldogs.

Steve signed for Carlisle aged 19 before moving to Hunslet eight years later. He exclaimed: “I’m Bramley through and through and very mindful of the strong heritage and legacy of one of rugby league’s most famous and iconic clubs. I recall watching many matches at McLaren Field and it was there that my love of Rugby League developed.

“I’m incredibly excited by the challenge ahead. We are, in effect, starting off from scratch having missed out on last season but I’ve already begun the recruitment process. We are interested in any talented rugby players in West Leeds looking to make their mark.

“I’m keen to keep it local and it will be a good opportunity for young players to represent Bramley and perform in front of arguably the biggest crowds outside of the professional game.

“I’ve been involved as a player and coach with Bramley Rugby Union for a number of years. It’s a union club with strong links to the thirteen-a-side code and I’ll be hoping to build on that in the months ahead,” added Steve who runs a gift distribution business with wife Joanne.

Buffaloes Chair Martyn Cheney commented: “Steve already has Bramley coursing through his veins and was a natural appointment given his background in the game, coaching knowledge and reputation.

“Our first game of the season is against Nevison Knights at Bramley Phoenix on April 30th. Kick off 2:30. The competition is the Yorkshire Mens League Division 5 with eight teams including Drighlinton, Greenland, Wetherby and Moldgreen

“We all hope that this will be the start of a great new era for Bramley Rugby League and that our supporters will dust off their scarves and shirts and get down to support the lads as they embark on the new season,” added Martyn.
