Warriors Gored by the Buffaloes
The Buffaloes face WIbsey Warriors in their first home game of 2019, in the forty/20 cup competition, with the home team coming into the game on the back of a narrow defeat at Hunslet Club Parkside, and visitors on the back of their victory against next weeks opponents, Stanningley.
The crowd was slightly down on regular attendances, due to the heavy rain on the morning of the game, which had cleared up by the time kick off came around, but there was a strong wind blowing across the field, with an icy edge to it.
The Buffaloes started the game the quickest, learning their lessons from the previous game, and a quick cut out ball, opened up the Wibsey line for Kieran Foster-Matthews to cross unopposed in the 4th minute for an unconverted try, giving the Buffaloes the lead 4-0.
Not to be outdone, Wibsey responded 4 minutes later, when Winger, Simon Kellett, finished a sweeping move, with an unconverted try, levelling the scores at four all.
In the 14th minute, the Buffaloes hit back, when loose forward, Aidan Baranyi, broke through the defenders, and raced 50 metres, before giving the ball to Keiran Hudson, who scored, out wide for the Buffaloes second unconverted try of the afternoon, giving them the lead again at 8-4.
On the 20 minute mark there was a flare-up in the tackle, and the referee, took his time sorting through the issues before dispatching the Wibsey Prop, Scott Simpson, to the sin-bin to cool down, before awarding the Buffaloes the Penalty.
Just before the half hour, the Buffaloes were in again, when Connor McGill crossed the line for the Buffaloes third try of the afternoon, following a good move, with some great interplay and passing. The Try again went unconverted, extending the Buffaloes lead to 12-4.
In the 38th Minute and the Buffaloes were in again, this time with Winger, Rob Brown, capitalised on a great pass from Brandon Batchelor, on debut, following some good work from McGill. Again the try went unconverted. Making the score 16-4.
FIve minutes into the second and Wibsey Scored their second try of the afternoon. When Sam Foulds, crossed the line after seemingly been held in the tackle, he sprung to his feet and carried on running; the Buffaloes players were guilty of not playing to the Whistle and ball was touched down under the black dot, with Brad Wright adding the conversion to narrow the lead to 16-10.
In the 49th Minute, Rob Brown was in again, after the Buffaloes shuffled the ball out to his wing quickly. The try again went unconverted, but the lead extended to ten points with the score being 20-10.
Five minutes later and somehow, captain, Brad Wilson, somehow managed to score a try next to the posts, which was converted by Foster-Matthews, giving the Buffaloes the lead 26-10.
On the hour mark, some swift passing saw McGill break away from the defenders, and fed the ball to Brooke Flynn who raced away for his first try of the year, McGill converted the try, taking the score to 32-10 to the Buffaloes.
With two minutes on the clock, Hooker, Jake Barnett saw a gap at the play the ball and dived for the line, between the defender’s feet for the Buffaloes last try of the afternoon, the conversion was again unsuccessful. Making the final score Bramley Buffaloes 36 Wibsey Warrior 10.
The win sees the home team move off the bottom of the Group 4 table and into second place, with everything to play for next weekend when we face Stanningley at The Warrels, Kick off at 2:30pm.
