Bramley Fail at Fartown - Bramley Buffaloes

In the 2017 season opener, the Buffaloes went down 30-28 to St Josephs, who snatched the win with a last minute penalty goal in front of the posts to win them the game.

The game started during a torrential downpour which left the supporters and player soaked and the ball slippery as a bar of soap.

The first ten minutes both teams were testing each other out with probing runs from either side, while the referee was trying to show the players and the boisterous crowd that the game was about him and not the players.

In the 12th minute, Joe Mathers came up the first score alongside the touchline, Connor McGill was unable to add the conversion, giving the Buffaloes the lead 0-4. Before the Try being given the St. Joes second rower Samuel Cummings was sin-binned for punching.

In the 16th Minute, the Buffaloes were penalised for Kicking out during a tackle and Loose forward Adian Baranyi was sin-binned for the offence.

A minute later Danny Steel was sin-binned for punching in the tackle and from the resulting penalty, St Joes Richard Aka, strode through the defensive line, as the Buffaloes were two men down. They were unable to add the Conversion, so the score was level at four-all.

In the 24th minute, Richard Brooke from St Joes was sin-binned for punching and was lucky to get away with just a sin bin.

On the half hour, the Buffaloes were back in front, when Curtis Sidebottom, on debut, followed through on a Deft kick from Captain Brad Wilson, McGill added the conversion, giving the Buffaloes the lead 4-10.

In the 36th minutes, with the Buffaloes defenders scrabbling at fresh air, Shaun Mitchell Scored and unconverted try for St Joes. Narrowing the lead to 8-10.

The remaining four minutes of the first half passed by with no more score, with the score been 8 – 10.

In the 45th minute, St. Joes winger Conner Robertson scored after a sloppy pass from the Buffaloes in the opposition 20-metre zone. Jakob Garside kicked the conversion to give St Joes the lead for the first time 14-10.

Three minutes later, Scott Colley put up a high kick; the Buffaloes defenders let the ball bounce and the chasing St. Joes attackers swooped on the ball and scored at Try with Garside converting, extending the lead to 20-10.

In the 53rd Minute, Buffaloes Full back Tom White, sliced through the defence to score in front of the posts, with McGill Converting, narrowing the St. Joes lead to 20-16.

On 56 minutes Buffaloes Prop Tom Barraclough went on a rampaging run but was held up over the line.

in the 62nd minute, following some shocking Bramley defence St. Joes Loose forward Jordan Cogan scored at try with Garside again converting, taking the lead to 26-16.

in the 76th minute, the Buffaloes were back in contention, McGill put in his best kick of the day, which Adian Barayni scooped up and scored a try just to the right of the uprights, with McGill on target again with the conversion, making the score 26-22.

From the kick off the Buffaloes allowed the ball to go dead, and were caught offside at the resulting dropout. Penalty to St. Joes in front of the posts, which Garside cooly slotted over, extend the lead to six points, 28-22.

With a minute of normal time left Joe Mathers crashed over by the corner flag, with McGill slotting the conversion over. Levelling the score at 28 all.

A draw looked to be on the cards, but the Buffaloes had a different idea. From the Kickoff, they again allowed the ball to go dead. The Dropout failed to go ten metres, and St.Joes were awarded a penalty in front of the posts again, Garside stepped up to kick the winning points, with the referee blowing time as the ball sailed between the uprights.
