West Leeds-based rugby league clubs Bramley Buffaloes and Rodley Rockets are currently exploring the possibility of merging to form one junior and open age club.
Bramley, who currently field an open age mens’ team in the Yorkshire League, was formed in 2004 by supporters after the demise in 1999 of the original professional Bramley RLFC whilst Rodley Rockets, founded in 1995, currently runs six junior teams and an open age side in the Pennine League.
The Buffaloes currently ground share the Arthur Miller Stadium with Stanningley SARLC with the Rockets based nearby on Moss Bridge Road in Rodley.
Tracy Bowes, Chair of Rodley Rockets, commented: “This could be a big development for Rugby League in the area and it’s a move that makes a lot of sense on so many levels especially with Bramley focusing on open age and ourselves focused on the junior teams.”
Bramley Chair Martyn Cheney was in full agreement: “We have plans to consult closely with our members and supporters before pushing ahead but it’s an exciting development that will deliver new beginnings and new possibilities for the two clubs.
“Stanningley have been magnificent hosts since 2004 and played a key role in the revival of the Bramley Rugby League name. We are very grateful for everything they’ve done for us,” added Martyn.
